Marsupial Love

Wikipedia says kangaroos, koalas, and opossums all have a very short gestation period— somewhere between 12 and 33 days. When baby joeys are born, they are in a fetal state. Despite their lack of development, the embryo bravely crawls across its mother’s fur to make the vulnerable journey into the external pouch or marsupium where warm milk awaits its arrival.

Only as a fully formed adult, did I began to understand and accept my perilous journey across the deep and dark motherland. No fur or physical destination, only longing— a longing fueled by my own biological imperative to be loved by a mom.
